Some of the most common questions that are asked by our customers:
What does finishing mean? It commonly refers to how ready the product is to be painted or glossed. Unfinished boards have been installed and have been taped and joint compound has been applied but certainly no paint.
What does taping and mudding mean? Taping is simply taping the gaps between sheets, then a joint compound (mud) is applied to smooth out the tape as if it were never there. Most often a second coat of mudding compound is applied.
What are the different thickness of sheet rock? It usually come in 4 x 8 feet. The most common thickness can be between 3/8 and 1/2 inch. These sheets come in various types such as fire resistant which are mainly used where electrical or gas appliance or units are installed. The other types are moisture or toxic resistant boards for humid and damp places.
What is the purpose of Primer? It is really the final step before painting is introduced. A coat of primer goes over the paper and the mud to seal or make a smooth even surface that makes painting or texture conditions so much easier.

Below are some of the most common types of wallboard material used for installation:
Moisture board is a common type of material used for high-moisture areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. This is often referred to as Greenboard. There is no difference from standard wallboard except that the paper backing used has a much higher moisture resistance than standard material.
Fire Resistant Drywall
This is the most common type of board installed. Fire resistant is most commonly in the 5/8" thick variety. Special fibers and other fire-resistant materials are added to the gypsum core to create more fire-protection than standard sheetrock. The most common use for this type of material would be placed behind electric and gas furnaces, around fireplace mantels, behind washers and dryers, ovens, stoves or just about any major electrical or gas appliance.
Mold Resistant Drywall
This type of board is designed to repel mold but does not necessarily make it impenetrable to mold it is just designed to have a less percent chance to develop. This is commonly used and important to install in very high moist areas of any home or business.
Removing Moldy Wallboard
Mold is a greenish black fungus. Mold grows well in materials that have high cellulose content. In homes, these materials include carpet, sheetrock, ceiling tiles, wallpaper, flooring and much more. Water damage from pipe leaks, flooding or other sources creates optimal conditions that allow this mold to grow and flourish. Exposure to mold spores can cause a wide range of health problems. If you suspect mold infestation anywhere in your home, you should try to have it completely removed as quickly as possible.
